Hurricane Agnes Discussion Set

LancasterHistory will host "Playing Politics With Disaster," a virtual lecture, on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m. The program focuses on Hurricane Agnes, its context, and its impact, particularly on modern disaster response.

This discussion will focus on the intersection of politics and disaster, exploring how political decisions impact disaster response and recovery efforts and how Hurricane Agnes influenced the 1972 presidential election, during which President Richard Nixon was granted a second term. The event will feature Timothy W. Kneeland, author of "Playing Politics with Natural Disaster: Hurricane Agnes, the 1972 Election, and the Origins of FEMA" and a professor of history and the director of the Center for Public History at Nazareth College.

The free event will take place virtually via Zoom. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions of the speaker and engage in discussion during the event.
