GSV Posts Birdhouse Auction, Genealogy Program

Garden Spot Village (GSV), 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will present its Secret Garden Birdhouse Display and Online Auction through Tuesday, Feb. 28. This event features handcrafted birdhouses and tables donated by the GSV Wood Shop and spring bird-themed items donated by quilters, crafters and the GSV Art Guild. Bidders can peruse the nearly 100 items in GSV's Village Square, where the display stretches from the Harvest Table to the Artisans Corner.

The link to the online auction is available at http://www.gsc.gl/birdhouse. The event will close online on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m., and proceeds will benefit the Benevolent Care Fund. Since first opening 15 years ago, this annual effort has raised more than $50,000 to benefit the Benevolent Care Fund, supporting GSV residents who have exhausted their financial resources.

Additionally, GSV will partner with Mennonite Life to present a Genealogy Session on Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the chapel. During the session, Julia Wiker, archivist and librarian at Mennonite Life, will provide an introduction to genealogy research, including basic tips and ways to start one's own genealogy search. Mennonite Life's archive and library provides resources for people who have Mennonite as well as non-Mennonite family connections to Lancaster County. Wiker noted that the materials include family Bibles from as far back as the 16th century.
