Student-athletes participate in signing day ceremony

Fourteen senior student-athletes at Conestoga Valley High School have committed to playing their respective sports at the collegiate level after graduation this spring. These student-athletes were recognized on Feb. 1 at the school's National Signing Day ceremony.

Alaina Culbert, daughter of Ben and Becky Culbert, is a three-year varsity starter for the CVHS field hockey team, a three-time District qualifier, and a Section 1 All-Star as a senior, and she was named to the Lancaster Lebanon (L-L) League Academic All-Star team and the PSFHCA All-State Academic Team. This year, she was the third-leading scorer in Section 1. She intends to major in communications and continue her field hockey career at Millersville University.

Jamie Handwerger is the daughter of Barry and Robin Handwerger. She is a two-year varsity starter for the lacrosse team and was an L-L League Second-Team All-Star her junior year. She has 297 saves to date with a save percentage of 56.5. She plans to major in biology and play lacrosse at Lebanon Valley College.

Rebecca Hartranft is the daughter of Jennie and Josh Hartranft. She was a four-year varsity starter on the volleyball team, a three-time L-L League Section 1 All-Star, and a Second-Team District All-Star, and she has led the Buckskins in kills for the past three seasons. She plans to major in sports administration and play volleyball at Millersville University.

Rhiannon Henry, daughter of Dina and Jeremiah Henry, is a four-year starter on the softball team as a pitcher and middle infielder. She earned L-L League All-Star status twice, was a two-time Phillies Carpenter Cup selection, was a Second-Team All-State pitcher as a junior, and holds the record for the most strikeouts (188) in a CV season from 43 feet. She is headed to West Chester University to major in English with a concentration in writing and to continue playing softball.

Sophia Hess is the daughter of Wendy and Matt Hess. She is a four-year varsity starter at midfield for the lacrosse team and led her team in scoring as a junior. She intends to major in sports management at Albright College, where she will play lacrosse.

Jordyn Hironimus is the daughter of Tonya and Tom Hironimus. She is a three-year starter for the lacrosse team. She will major in occupational therapy at Elizabethtown College, where she will play lacrosse.

Riley Houck, daughter of Chad and Debi Houck, is a senior goalkeeper who played varsity girls' soccer her sophomore and junior years. She plans to study public health with a minor in health studies at Fairfield University, where she will play soccer.

David Irwin, son of Duane and Stacy Irwin, is a senior defender and four-year varsity starter for the boys' soccer team. He earned L-L League All-Star honors his final two seasons and was named defensive MVP for CV. He plans to follow the pre-med track at Millersville University, where he will continue his soccer career.

Anna Kauffman is the daughter of Laura and Abiel Kauffman. She is a senior defender as a two-year varsity starter for the girls' soccer team. She will major in film and video arts, minor in graphic design, and play soccer at Lycoming College.

Sophia Livingston, daughter of Brooke and Fin Livingston, is a three-year varsity starter for the CVHS field hockey team. She was named L-L League Section 1 All-Star and L-L All-League player, and she earned First-Team All-State Recognition. She intends to major in business and play field hockey at Kent State University.

Zach Phy is the son of Aaron and Tiffany Phy. He is a four-year member of the track and field team, with his main events being the 400-meter run and hurdles. As a junior, he was a district qualifier in the 300 hurdles and in the 4 x 400-meter relay. He intends to major in finance and continue his track and field career at Goldey-Beacom College.

Mikyla Rineer is the daughter of Jen and Darren Schiefer. As a forward for the field hockey team, she led Section 1 in scoring this season, was named an L-L League Section 1 All-Star and an All-League Selection, and received First-Team PSFHCA All-State recognition. She plans to major in exercise/sport science and athletic training at Frostburg State University, where she will continue to play field hockey.

Hunter Silvaggio, son of Beth and Chris Silvaggio, is a four-year varsity letterman as a senior midfielder for the boys' lacrosse team. He is a two-time L-L League All-Star. He will major in environmental science, following the pre-law track at Washington College. He will also continue his lacrosse career.

Ashton Taylor is the son of Camron Smalls. He was a four-year member of the football team as an offensive and defensive tackle. In 2022, he earned a spot on the 2022 L-L League Honorable Mention All-Star team. He will study civil engineering and play football at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.
