Strength training program announced

Penn State Extension will offer an in-person, group-based strength training program for adults age 40 and older. LIFT, which stands for Lifelong Improvements through Fitness Together, will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 28 to May 18. Individuals may choose to attend from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. or 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster, or from 10:45 a.m. to noon at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville.

A free informational meeting will be held on Thursday, March 9, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the training room at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. All new registrants and returning registrants who have not participated since 2020 are required to attend. The deadline to register for the program is March 9.

LIFT is designed to promote improvements in functional fitness or the ability to perform activities of daily living with ease. Participants are encouraged to work toward achieving their own goals in a group setting. Each session includes an active warmup, eight core strength training exercises, and a cool-down. The program also includes basic nutrition information with an emphasis on increased fruit and vegetable intake.

There is a fee for the program. Some insurance policies may reimburse participants with 80% or greater attendance; those attending should check with their insurance provider for more information.
