Rotary Club honors students

Maggie Swarr and Rowan Kimmel, seniors at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, were selected as Lancaster South Rotary Club's Students of the Month for February. They were presented to the club by Ben Feeney, principal of Lampeter-Strasburg High School. Students of the Month are selected on the basis of academic excellence as well as school and community service.

Maggie is the daughter of Shawn and Katrina Swarr of Lancaster. Maggie has consistently been listed on the distinguished honor roll and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been class president for four years, president of Four Diamonds Mini-THON, vice president of the Fellowship of Christian Students, vice president of Model UN Club and treasurer of the Varsity Club. Maggie is a member of the school newspaper, Student Council, and stage crew; was a part of the chorus in ninth and 10th grades; and is a past member of the Interact Club. She is a student representative to the Lampeter-Strasburg School Board.

She has participated in indoor and outdoor track as well as field hockey and basketball. She served as captain of the field hockey and track teams. In 2022, Maggie placed first in the javelin at the Lancaster-Lebanon League Championship, third at the District 3 meet and sixth at the PIAA State meet.

Maggie received a Lampeter-Strasburg High School Pioneer Superlative Award, George Myers Award and Student of the Month Award, and she was a Burrowes Scholar in family and consumer science. She was a HOBY alternate and was nominated for a DAR award.

In the community, Maggie is a counselor for BRR, an AWANA leader and a youth leader at her church.

Following graduation, Maggie plans to study architecture and continue her sports career at Belmont University.

Rowan is the daughter of Scott and Wendy Kimmel of Lancaster. Rowan has earned distinguished honor roll recognition every semester of high school and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is president of the Asian Culture Club, an officer in Varsity Club and an Inter-Club Council representative. Rowan was a member of the varsity tennis, field hockey and lacrosse teams.

Rowan was selected as a 2022 USA Lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American and was the 2022 Lancaster-Lebanon League co-MVP. Her lacrosse accomplishments also include the Under Armour All-America Philadelphia Highlight Team, Under Armour All-America Girls Watchlist, the USA National Tournament Central Pennsylvania 1 Team, Athletes Unlimited Futures PA Team, All-Central PA Philly Lacrosse Girls Team and National Cup District East Team Champions. She was also named a HLA (Heather Leigh Albert) National Schoolgirl Lacrosse Award Finalist, Navy Camp All-Star and Lancaster-Lebanon All-Star. In 2021, Rowan was awarded a PIAA state field hockey academic award. In 2020, she was selected for the Nike Girls Philly Showcase All-Star Team, and in 2019, she was selected to the WPLL Futures PA Team.

Rowan received a Lampeter-Strasburg High School Pioneer Superlative Award, was a Burrowes Scholar in art, placed fourth in the MathCounts County Chapter competition and took part in the state competition. She is a Mini-THON student leader and attended the Mini-THON Leadership Summit in 2021. Rowan is also a member of the Lampeter-Strasburg Interact Club.

In the community, Rowan is involved with the Blessings of Hope Food Bank and Lancaster Conservancy. She serves as a volunteer coach and has helped with the Lampeter-Strasburg Lacrosse Camp.

Following graduation, Rowan plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, where she will study a STEM major and continue her lacrosse career. Rowan aspires to be a naval aviator.
