Lebanon choir to visit St. John's

The Festival Choir of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Lebanon, will travel to St. John's Episcopal Church, Marietta, to sing Choral Evensong on Sunday, March 19, at 6 p.m. Acting choirmaster Jason Yannuzzi will lead the choir, and St. John's Church's interim rector, the Rev. Julian Eibin, will lead the liturgy. Terry Heisey, organist at St. Luke's, Lebanon, will play the organ for the service.

As is traditional in Choral Evensong services, the choir will sing the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, this time with settings composed by Karl E. Moyer, one of two organists at St. John's. The anthem will be "Wash Me Thoroughly From My Wickedness" by Samuel Sebastian Wesley.

Heisey will play "Wondrous Love" by Daniel Pinkham for the prelude and "At Even-tide" by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford for the postlude.

Following the liturgy, Moyer will provide a half-hour recital of music chosen in part to demonstrate the wide variety of sounds available on the small pipe organ. The selections will include "Grand Choeur Dialogue" by Eugène Gigout and Bach's Prelude and Fugue in G Major, BWV 550, which Moyer played on his final doctoral recital at Eastman School of Music.

Moyer has composed a descant for choir and congregation sopranos to sing in this service on the final stanza of the closing hymn, "Now the Day Is Over."

Seating in the church nave is limited, and early arrival is recommended. A reception will follow in the church social hall.
