Vietnam Veterans Day event slated

The Michael J. Novosel, Medal of Honor, Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 542 (VVA 542), 8000 Derry St., Harrisburg, will hold an event to recognize 411 Vietnam veterans who died in service to their country. The event will take place on Vietnam Veterans Day, Wednesday, March 29, at 11 a.m.

The men to be memorialized were from the nine counties that surround the VA Medical Center in Lebanon; these counties are Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuylkill, and York. Photos of the men will be shown during the reading of the names. Readers of the names will be both Vietnam veterans and non-veterans from some of the nine counties. The keynote speaker will be former Marine and Vietnam veteran Gary Crowell from Camp Hill.

The event will also include music, a field cross ceremony presented by American Legion Riders Post 751 of Enola, bugler Robert Goodman, pinning of Vietnam veterans by members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and a flyover by a Huey helicopter supplied by the Liberty War Birds, weather permitting. Joel Buch's extensive Vietnam era collection of memorabilia will be on display, and a silent auction will be held.

The ceremony is open to the public. For further information, contact Richard Burton at 717-545-2336 or centralpavietnamrt@verizon.net. To learn more, visit http://www.VVA542.org.
