Octorara PTO sets family bingo, continues shoe collection

A family bingo night, which is open to the community, will be presented by the Octorara Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) on Friday, April 14, at the Octorara Primary Learning Center (PLC), 87 Highland Road, Atglen. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m., and games will start at 6 p.m.

The event will feature 10 rounds of bingo, and there will be prizes for both adults and children. There will also be an opportunity to win gift baskets.

Tickets will only be sold at the door for a nominal fee, with separate prices for adults and for children. Pizza, snacks and water will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

There will also be a collection of shoes on April 14 as part of a shoe drive fundraiser being held by the PTO in partnership with the Leo Club at Octorara Junior-Senior High School. The community is invited to donate gently worn and new shoes, including sneakers, boots, dress shoes, sandals, athletic shoes and casual footwear.

A shoe drive kickoff event was held last month at the Octorara PLC. "We had a very successful shoe drive (on March 25) and collected 425 (pairs of) shoes, which gets us 17% of the way to our goal of 2,500 (pairs of shoes)," said Leo Club adviser Marcia Rapone.

All donated shoes will be given to Funds2Orgs, a nonprofit organization that repurposes them.

In addition to donating shoes at the bingo event, members of the public may place shoes in the drop-off boxes located in the lobby of each of Octorara's school buildings. The fundraiser will conclude on Saturday, May 20, at the OABEST Expo at the high school. Shoes will be collected that day from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
