Evening with Darryl Strawberry set

First United Methodist Church, 29 E. Walnut St., Lancaster, will host an evening with Darryl Strawberry on Saturday, April 22, at 5 p.m. Described as a baseball legend by many, Strawberry is now an ordained minister who is passionate about spreading a message of hope and helping others transform their lives.

Strawberry's many accomplishments in baseball include four World Series titles, eight All-Star Game appearances, and a nomination to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004. Extremely successful in his career, Strawberry's personal life was plagued with addictions, abuse, divorces, cancer, jail, and other issues. He is the author of numerous books, including "The Imperfect Marriage: Help for Those Who Think It's Over" with his wife, Tracy Strawberry. In 2011, the Strawberrys founded Strawberry Ministries, and they use their global reach to restore the multitudes through spiritual and practical life applications.

The evening will include dinner, a program, question-and-answer session, and autographs. A silent auction of sports memorabilia, event tickets, and gift cards will benefit Anchor Lancaster. Guests are invited to a 30-minute private reception with Strawberry at 4:30 p.m. for an additional fee.

There is a cost to attend the dinner event, and seating is limited. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.engagegodfirst.org and look under Events or call the church office at 717-394-7231.

In addition, the public is invited to hear Strawberry speak on Sunday, April 23, at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Each service will be followed by a meet-and-greet.
