School PTOs to present Golden Mule 5K Stampede

The Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) at Smith and Swift middle schools will host a joint fundraiser - the Golden Mule 5K Stampede - on Saturday, May 6, on the Enola Low Grade Trail.

A fun run for children age 10 and under will start at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9 a.m.

Runners and walkers in the 5K will begin and end at the Groff Avenue trailhead at 301 E. State St. The route will take participants across the pedestrian bridge that displays the trail's name over Route 222.

Those who register by Friday, April 21, for the 5K will receive a discounted registration fee and will be guaranteed a T-shirt. The registration fee will increase after April 21 with shirts not guaranteed. Ribbons will be provided, but T-shirts will not be available for the fun run, which is free.

Trophies for the 5K will be presented to the overall male and female finishers. Medals will be awarded according to age brackets.

Featured on the T-shirts will be a logo designed for the event by Smith Middle School student Jackson Sutton, as well as one contributed by Swift Middle School art teacher Melissa Tucker.

Several businesses and organizations are helping to support the endeavor.
