Hartman named superintendent

The Conestoga Valley Board of School Directors has announced the appointment of Daniel W. Hartman as the district's next superintendent. Hartman is currently the assistant superintendent in the South Western School District in York County and expects to formally start in Conestoga Valley on July 1. Hartman will become the district's seventh superintendent and will replace David Zuilkoski, who will retire at the end of the 2022-23 school year after serving as superintendent for six years. Hartman was scheduled to be officially approved at the April 11 board meeting.

Before starting as assistant superintendent in South Western in 2016, Hartman was the district's intermediate school principal for three years and an assistant principal for four years. He began his career in education as a middle school social studies teacher in the Dallastown Area School District.

Hartman, whose family includes multiple educators, graduated from Elizabethtown College with a bachelor's degree in secondary education. He then completed his master's degree at Temple University in 2007 before concluding his formal education in 2013 with a doctorate in educational leadership from Immaculata University.

Conestoga Valley School Board president Idette Groff said the board interviewed a series of highly qualified candidates from a strong pool of individuals.

The School Board planned to introduce Hartman to the school community on April 17 at a community forum at Conestoga Valley High School. In the weeks and months ahead, the board will work closely with Hartman on a series of transition activities, including staff and community engagement activities.
