Lititz Community Night at Barnstormers could be home run

Both Lititz and baseball epitomize the concept of wholesomeness. In the dictionary, the definition of wholesome could be flanked by depictions of baseball and Lititz. They go together like mom and apple pie.

On Saturday, May 6, the Lancaster Barnstormers minor league baseball franchise will celebrate the wholesomeness of Lititz through the American pastime. That's when the "Stormers" will host Lititz Community Night at its home ballpark, 650 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

"It's going to be a great night of baseball," said Elijah Yearick, Lititz Borough's managing director of planning and development. "Hopefully, it will be a lot of fun and a way for the community to come together and celebrate. It's a way to recognize the community and our shared culture."

"In Lititz, there's a history of people coming together and doing what's best for the community," continued Yearick. "Lititz has improved its downtown a lot. Local residents put their money where their hearts are. And there's not just one thing that makes Lititz, Lititz."

On Lititz Community Night, the Barnstormers will be hosting the Lexington Counter Clocks in a 6:30 p.m. Atlantic League contest. Through the efforts of Venture Lititz, the ballpark's concourse will be decorated to depict Lititz's Main Street, complete with locally themed props and vendor tables.

A fireworks display will fill the night sky after the game.

"The way the idea was pitched to us was 'You can do as much or as little as you like,'" said Yearick. "Venture Lititz has really taken the lead, and I trust that it'll be a really cool night. Venture Lititz is trying to make it iconic."

As part of a promotional plan to highlight Lancaster County communities, the Barnstormers approached Lititz Borough Council and Venture Lititz about the possibility of hosting a Lititz Community Night. Yearick said that the Barnstormers have hosted a similar Lititz night in the past, but not recently.

He also stressed that Lititz Community Night is also designed to include residents of Warwick and Elizabeth townships.

"Me personally, I enjoy going to the Barnstormers with friends and family and seeing a live game," said Yearick. "You can go there and not break the bank. It's great to have this resource in our own backyard."
