Cleanup, planting events set

The Marietta Shade Tree Commission has planned several events.

On Saturday, April 29, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., commission members will be on the Northwest River Trail in Marietta near its entrance at Front and Chestnut streets to continue cutting ivy away from the trees. Volunteers are welcome, and they should bring clippers and small saws.

Also on April 29, there will be an expert tree planting demonstration at the Marietta Community House, 264 W. Market St. The program will begin at noon.

Tree planting will begin on the Northwest River Trail, sponsored by the Shade Tree Commission in cooperation with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, on Saturday, May 27. Volunteers will need to bring shovels and meet at Chestnut and Front streets in Marietta.

On Marietta Day on Saturday, May 20, the Shade Tree Commission will give away 325 trees and shrubs supplied by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
