DCMSA supports nonprofits, sets fundraisers

The Dauphin County Medical Society Alliance (DCMSA) recently completed projects with two groups helping children in communities in the area. In March, DCMSA provided 12 bags of personal care products, estimated at a total cost of more than $800, to Lower Dauphin Communities That Care, a nonprofit organization serving families in the Lower Dauphin School District. More information about the organization is available at http://www.ldctc.org.

During February and March, DCMSA also supported the Harrisburg School District with funding for science education programs for fourth-graders through the S.P.A.R.K.S. Foundation and provided volunteers to assist the S.P.A.R.K.S. instructors.

DCMSA is a nonprofit organization whose members come from physician families living throughout central Pennsylvania. The group focuses on projects that support community health needs and science and medical education projects in Cumberland and Dauphin counties.

To benefit these projects, DCMSA has planned two fundraising opportunities. People have a chance to win a diamond bracelet provided by Mountz Jewelers. DCMS will also hold its "Spring Into Fashion" Lunch and Fashion Show featuring clothing provided by three local shops: Simply J, The Plum and Presence. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the West Shore Country Club, 100 Brentwater Road, Camp Hill. Alicia Richards will be the master of ceremonies. The winner of the bracelet will be announced at the event. For complete details about the fundraisers, visit http://www.facebook.com/DauphinCountyMedicalSocietyAlliance.

Funds raised will benefit the health and education projects and programs DCMSA operates for the central Pennsylvania area. These include funding for local medical clinics that serve the underserved, including Beacon Clinic and Community Check-up Center; local food pantries and organizations providing nutrition assistance, including the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, the International Service Center and the Latino-Hispanic-American Cultural Center; and groups providing services to children, including the Penn State College of Medicine SCOPE program and Lower Dauphin Communities That Care.

DCMSA also funds a medical student scholarship each year and provides awards at the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair among its other projects.
