GSV posts programs, support groups

Garden Spot Village (GSV), 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, has posted upcoming events.

GSV's Main Street Art Gallery will host the Congressional Art Competition through Wednesday, May 31, and members of the public may view the artwork on Sundays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The display features artworks by high school students in the 11th District of Pennsylvania, represented by Congressman Lloyd Smucker. The winning artwork from the 11th Congressional District will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol through May 2024.

A drive-through Shred-it Day will take place in Parking Lot 6 on Friday, May 5, from 9 to 11 a.m. Community members may bring up to five boxes or bags of confidential documents to be securely shredded. No newspapers, magazines or phone books will be accepted. There is a suggested donation per box or bag.

Artisan Pixie Boswell will demonstrate her button jewelry art and display her jewelry on May 5 from 10 a.m. to noon at The Artisans Corner. Attendees may also shop for handcrafted gifts at The Artisans Corner.

A prayer gathering will take place on Thursday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in the chapel, sponsored by the Garden Spot Village chaplains.

The New Holland Historical Society will host a program on Thursday, May 18, at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Robert Frick, a retired educator and school superintendent and a local historian, will share the stories of Jacob Eichholtz and Anthony Ellmaker. Eichholtz, born in 1776, was an artist known for portrait paintings of prominent people in Lancaster and Philadelphia. Ellmaker, born in 1803, was a businessman and politician with ties to New Holland.

GSV will also offer several support groups, which are free and open to the community.

Fellow Travelers in Community, a group for individuals noticing cognitive changes in themselves, will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, in the theater.

Caregiver Friends in Community, for family caregivers of persons with dementia, will meet in the Concord Room at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 8. Laura Gribble, music therapist for Garden Spot Communities, will speak.

Compassionate Neighbors in Community will meet on Wednesday, May 17, at 10 a.m. in the theater; the group is for friends or family members of those experiencing cognitive challenges.

Parkinson's Friends in Community, for individuals with Parkinson's and their friends and families, will meet on Monday, May 22, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. Michelle Stoner, Legacy Companion for Garden Spot Communities, will share on the topic "Your Life, Your Story, Your Legacy."

The ELANCO Nar-Anon Family Group meets at 6 p.m. on Sundays in the Prayer and Meditation Room.
