Veteran visits Military History Museum

World War II veteran Richard DeVerter recently toured the Berks Military History Museum with state Rep. Mark M. Gillen of Berks County. While in the museum's Holocaust room, the 97-year-old DeVerter recounted his grief at the sight of just-liberated inmates still in Germany's Buchenwald concentration camp. DeVerter served in Gen. Patton's Third Army as a crew member on a half-track in the 8th Armored Division. He now lives with his wife, Marie, in Lancaster.

Gillen is the chairman of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' Veteran Affairs committee.
