UPMC plans informational event

UPMC in Central Pa. will host a virtual event for high school seniors and their parents or guardians, as well as high school teachers, counselors and administrators, to offer information about careers in health care. "From High School to Health Care" will take place on Wednesday, May 17, from 6 to 7 p.m.

UPMC offers students a wide range of opportunities - whether graduates plan to enter the workforce immediately or pursue additional education - and has developed innovative programs to support those goals.

At the virtual event, students may learn about available career paths, UPMC's paid training academies for urgent care assistants and EMTs, the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing at UPMC Harrisburg and employee growth opportunities through tuition reimbursement and career ladders.

Attendees can also learn about the UPMC Scholars Program and partnerships with area colleges and universities. Under the UPMC Scholars Program, graduates in selected health care fields who work at UPMC will receive payments in addition to their salaries equivalent to the cost of their education. The program is available for high-demand positions, including cardiac sonographers, pharmacy technicians and medical assistants.

As an added benefit, UPMC offers a "tech in training program" that is available for students who wish to work and gain hands-on experience while pursuing a health care education.

Registration for the virtual event is not required but is encouraged. To register or join the event on May 17, visit http://bit.ly/HealthCareFuture.
