Coast Guard veteran to speak

The Military Oral History Club of Lancaster County will meet on Tuesday, May 30, at 7 p.m. Thomas Taylor of Harrisburg will be the guest speaker. The club will meet at VFW Post 2435, 401 Manor St., Columbia.

Taylor served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the Mediterranean Sea, first on the USS Lansdale prior to its being torpedoed by German forces and then on the USS Falgout. He celebrated his 100th birthday last month, and the festivities were covered by many media outlets, including WGAL. Taylor is one of the oldest surviving African American World War II veterans.
