Library plans June activities

Early online registration for SummerQuest is available on Beanstack. SummerQuest will begin on Thursday, June 1, offering free activities to keep everyone learning, reading, and physically active from June to August. After registering for SummerQuest, participants may also pick up a GO Get Outdoors! booklet and rubbing sheets at any York County Libraries location. Those who log their hiking post codes in Beanstack may enter the GO Get Outdoors grand prize drawing.

The SummerQuest Mini Kickoff will take place on Saturday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will offer a Kindness Story Time, featuring state Rep. Joe D'Orsie and guests, at 10:30 a.m. Attendees of the kickoff event may pick up SummerQuest registration packets and explore craft stations and outside activities.

Upcoming programs include Baby and Toddler Story Time for children from birth to age 3, Wednesdays, June 14 and 21; Kindermusik for children birth through age 3, Wednesday, June 28; and Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 5, Fridays June 16 and 30. These programs will run from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., and reservations are requested.

"Emotions," a special SummerQuest story time with Miss Monee, will be offered for children ages 3 to 11 on Friday, June 23, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.

People of all ages are invited to attend "Are You Smarter Than a Crow?" on Wednesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. at the pavilion in Sam Lewis State Park, 6000 Mt. Pisgah Road, York. People will learn about the crow's biology and folklore surrounding this bird. Attendees are encouraged to pack a picnic dinner and complete the hike in their SummerQuest GO York booklet while they are at the park.

SummerQuest will also include eight weeks of themed Lego challenges posted to the library's Facebook on Monday mornings, June 12, 19, and 26. People of all ages are invited to take a photo of their creation and post it in the comments section on Facebook or email it to kreutzcreeklibrary@yorklibraries.org.

Kindness Rocks! will be held for people of all ages on Tuesday, June 13, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Attendees will decorate rocks or stones. Rocks will be provided, but people may also bring their own.

Pendulum Painting for first- through sixth-graders (ages 6 to 11) will be held on Thursday, June 29, from 2 to 3 p.m. Kids will work in pairs to assemble the paint pendulum and use it to create their own colorful art.

Mini Book Making for Teens, for people ages 12 to 18, will take place on Saturday, June 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants will make a tiny replica of their favorite book. Attendees who have a specific book they would like to miniaturize may email a picture of the cover to kfoehrkolb@yorklibraries.org.

Penn State Master Watershed Stewards will present "We Are All Connected," for children ages 6 to 11, on Tuesday, June 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants will examine a wetland ecosystem and its food webs, explore animal artifacts, read stories about these ecosystems, and play games. Reservations are requested.

Teen Meditation Session and Mindfulness Chat will be held on Thursday, June 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees should bring something to sit on as they will be sitting on the floor.

The library will host Drawing For All, a program for youths age 10 and up and adults, on Thursdays, June 22 and 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. Local artist Robert Oughton will help participants to develop their drawing skills and learn how to work with a variety of techniques. Attendees should bring something to draw on and something to draw with.

Teen Coloring Night, a drop-in event, will occur on Tuesday, June 27, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Builder's Club, for people ages 6 to 12, will be held on Thursday, June 15, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Tween Programs for people ages 9 to 11 will be held on June 13 and 20 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. The Danger Club will meet on June 13, and the Library Squad will meet on June 20 to shape library programs for tweens.

The Teen Leadership group will meet on June 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Teens are invited to plan projects and programs for the teen space at the library. If interested, call Kayla at 717-252-4080.

The Spoiler Alert! teen book review group will meet via Zoom on Thursday, June 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Reservations are requested.

Manga Book Club for teens will take place on Saturday, June 17, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Teen Area. This program will occur after the library is closed to the public. Only teens attending this program will be allowed inside.

Stitch and Chat groups, for knitters and crocheters, will meet on June 1 and 15 from 6 to 7:45 p.m. and on June 6 and 20 from 1 to 2:45 p.m.

Reiki Meditation with Miranda will take place on June 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The Green Thumb Garden Club will meet on Thursday, June 8, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Kathy Clark will present "Growing Lavender and Its Uses."

York Chess Club, for people of all ages, will be held on June 6, 13, and 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Friends of Kreutz Creek Library Branch Support Group will gather on Tuesday, June 27, at 5:30 p.m.
