Water Week activities planned

The seventh annual Lancaster Water Week, which brings community members and partners caring for nature together to celebrate Lancaster County's waterways, will take place from Friday, June 2, to Saturday, June 10.

Lancaster Water Week celebrates the 1,400 miles of streams and rivers in Lancaster County. These waterways are the source of drinking water, drive economic and agricultural growth, and allow people to escape into nature to fish, paddle, and swim.

Lancaster Conservancy, partners, and community members are taking action to address pollution in the county's waterways. Lancaster Water Week will include over 40 events that provide opportunities to learn, explore, and act to protect and heal waterways.

Events during this year's Water Week will include an art installation and performances during Lancaster's First Friday on June 2, paddles on the Conestoga River, tours to learn about restoration and sustainability efforts around the county, film and poetry explorations, and a community cleanup. These events are organized by more than a dozen partners that are all taking steps to help restore impaired waterways.

At an art display in downtown Lancaster's Penn Square all week, the Conservancy and the Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership will give away free native trees. The Conservancy encourages people to plant native trees and shrubs to protect the health of waterways and communities.
