Wimer inducted into PA Track Hall of Fame

The Pennsylvania Track and Field Hall of Fame committee held its induction ceremony on May 27 during the PIAA Track and Field Championship Meet at Shippensburg University. The late Cliff Wimer, Solanco High School Class of 1977, was among the recipients. His brother, Glenn Wimer, accepted the award.

Cliff was an outstanding distance runner. At the PIAA (Class B) State Meets, he was the champion in the mile run in 1975, a silver medalist in the mile run in 1976, a bronze medalist in the 2-mile run in 1974 and the champion in the 2-mile run in 1975. He was a PTFCA Indoor State Meet champion in the 2-mile run in 1975 and again in 1976. In 1977, Cliff placed second at the U.S. Naval Academy Invitational in the indoor 2-mile run, setting a new Pennsylvania record in the process.

He was a two-time PIAA (B) cross-country champion from 1975 to 1976 and won 52 straight cross-country races in 1975 and 1976. He was named Harrier Magazine High School All-American in 1976, an honor given to only 50 undefeated runners in the U.S.
