Psychologist to speak about trauma

Milanof-Schock Library will host the program "Children and Teens of Ukraine: Treating Trauma and Nurturing Trust" on Monday, June 19, at 6 p.m. Admission is free, and a library card is not needed to attend.

The program will be led by psychologist Lark Eshleman, who will speak about her work addressing the effects of war on Ukrainian children and teens. She works with Ukrainian youths who have left their home and are living in Romania.

Eshleman, who holds a Doctor of Psychology, is a former school principal, a Pennsylvania school psychologist, and the founder and director of the Institute for Children and Families (ICF), the About Child Families Foundation (ACT), and Traumatized Children: Building Trust, an internationally used, community-based program for children surviving war trauma. Eshleman is the author of "Becoming a Family: Promoting Healthy Attachments With Your Adopted Child," and with art therapist Jane Gordon of Color Me Closer, she created a coloring book for two that is intended to be therapeutic. She is a frequent keynote and workshop presenter and is now a consultant to the World Health Organization.
