Club announces officers, award recipients

Members of the Millersville Woman's Club recently installed officers for the 2023-24 year during an installation dinner hosted by Linda Davis, Louise Brown and Carol Goss. Goss also served as master of ceremonies.

The new officers are Louise Brown, president; Jackie Shaw, first vice president; Karen Choppa, second vice president; Linda Davis, treasurer; Beverly Zbiek-Beam, recording secretary, and Nancy Dornsife, corresponding secretary.

In addition, the club recently announced the winners of the 2023 scholarships and academic achievement awards for seniors at Penn Manor High School and the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center (CTC).

The 2023 $1,000 scholarship winners are Abbie Kelly and Betty Gurtizen - Health Careers Scholarship; Anne Bibus - Jean Roth Academic Scholarship; and Nicole Chen - Evelyn Wild Academic Scholarship.

Achievement awards in the amount of $200 each were given to Madeline Whited, art; Elijah Julian, English; Anne Bibus, math; Nicole Chen, music; Isabelle Kligge, science; and Anne Bibus, social studies.

CTC Achievement Award winners who received $200 each are Thomas James Alexander, Brownstown; Ella Coleman, Mount Joy; and Abigail Walborn and Jesslyn Lopez, Willow Street.

The Student of the Year, who received $100 and a medal, was Lauren P. Stoner. Cynthia Stoy was named the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY) Student of the Year.

The main purpose of the Millersville Woman's Club is to provide scholarships and achievement awards for students at both Penn Manor and Lancaster County CTC. In addition, the club helps to fund both international and community programs. The club's primary fundraisers are a card/game party in the fall, a Christmas cookie sale in the winter and an indoor garage sale in the spring.
