Rizzetta's Tones to perform in park

Rizzetta's Tones, a Celtic Americana band, will perform in concert at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, at the Lloyd H. Roland Memorial Park in the Pavilion 2 bandshell. The event is a part of the Akron Summer Concert Series, sponsored by the law firm Haggerty, Silverman & Justice.

The members of Rizzetta's Tones play "fraternal twin" hammered dulcimers, a silver flute, high and low whistles, and guitars. They often add in button accordion, Greek bouzouki, mandolin, autoharp, and ukulele, as well as bodhran, djembe, and other percussion instruments such as three frogs.

All members sing lead and backing vocals. The band's repertoire includes music from Ireland, Scotland, and the U.S., drawing as well from the traditions of Finland, Brazil, France, Macedonia, and many other lands. The band forges new arrangements and writes original material.

The other two concerts will feature the Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble on Sunday, July 9, and Mitch and the Mood Swings on Sunday, July 30, also in the bandshell at the Lloyd H. Roland Memorial Park. For all concerts in the series, people are invited to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and pack a picnic supper. The events are free of charge.
