American Legion hosts birthday party

Bainbridge American Legion Post 197 held a surprise birthday party for Lesley L. McCurdy on June 21. Lesley, a Korean War veteran and past post commander, turned 91.

Lesley was one of 10 children - seven boys and three girls - of the late Jessie and Harry F. McCurdy Sr. He spent his infancy and youth in the Haldeman Mansion, where the family lived for many years. He and four of his brothers served in the U.S. Army.

Lesley and Doris L. Tyson are the last surviving siblings. Lesley resides with his daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Brandon Fisher, in Mount Joy.

The birthday party was arranged by post commander James Hanley and post office manager Paige Fries.
