Society awards scholarships

The Elizabeth Hughes Society has announced the three winners of this year's Women for Women Scholarship. The winners of the $1,000 scholarships were Joan Crick, Alayna DeBruin and Jenna Kline.

Three women applied for the scholarship, and initially, one winner was chosen, although committee members were impressed with the character and aspirations of all three applicants. However, an anonymous donor provided the funds for a second scholarship, and funds were soon also provided for the third scholarship.

Crick works to help children with special needs/attention deficit disorders to succeed in mainstream classrooms. DeBruin, the youngest recipient, is pursuing a dual degree with the goal of becoming a certified nurse midwife and women's health nurse practitioner. Kline is pursuing a degree in therapeutic massage.
