Library plans August programs

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

Food trucks will be parked at the library every Thursday through Aug. 24. One set of trucks will serve customers from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and a different set of trucks will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Check the aforementioned website and the library's social media pages for the food truck schedule.

The Summer Reading Program will end on Saturday, Aug. 12. Families must return reading logs before or on this date to be eligible for prizes.

"So You Want to ... Be a Pirate Like Miss Jan" will be held on Thursday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m. Attendees may dress as a pirate to attend the program, which will feature stories, songs, and a craft.

Fun Fort Friday will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 11 while the library is closed. Participants should bring blankets and sheets, a flashlight, and a beverage. Clips will be provided to hang sheets or blankets to create forts. A snack will be provided.

Teen Chill and Draw with Hanna Haser will offer drawing, snacks, and an opportunity to socialize on Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. People ages 12 to 19 may participate in this after-hours program.

Sidewalk Chalk Day will be held on Monday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon. Families are invited to decorate the library's front sidewalks with chalk art.

Teen 'Zine will feature graphic novelist Kwame Ivery on Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. live via Zoom.

Family Book Bingo, featuring books as prizes, will be played on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. This activity is geared for people age 7 and up.

Family Story Time will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 10:30 a.m.

The library will host Back to School Is Cool on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 10:30 a.m. The family program will include stories and a craft.

Unstructured creative play will be offered during Wee Build Free Build on Friday, Aug. 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Adults may take on the Read Your Bucket List Summer Reading Challenge. Participants may enter their name to be eligible to win a small prize each week and a grand prize at the end of August.

Programs and clubs for adults will also be offered. Regular programs include Closely Knit for knitters and crocheters at 1 p.m. on Mondays, Aug. 14 and 28; a Friends of the Milanof-Schock Library meeting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 14; Easy Writer Club on Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m.; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club for people of all skill levels from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

The movie "80 for Brady" will be screened at the library on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. Free popcorn will be available.

Make-It Monday - "Cookie Decorating With Tess" will be held on Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. for people age 16 and up. Tess Fernald, a cookie and cake decorator at Rise Bake Shoppe, will offer tips for decorating cookies. The library will supply the icing and necessary tools. Participants should bring up to one dozen flat cookies. Space is limited.
