Overdose awareness event slated

International Overdose Awareness Day is observed around the world on Aug. 31. It is a day to acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends remembering those who have died from a drug overdose, and it aims to reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. Hospice & Community Care's Pathways Center for Grief & Loss will host an event to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day. It is open to anyone regardless of if their loved one was served by Hospice & Community Care.

The event will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, and will feature keynote speaker Lori Kuhn, a board-certified registered nurse, certified grief counselor and grief recovery method specialist. She has been impacted by the death of her daughter from an overdose. Kuhn, who lost her child as well as her husband within a four-year period, will talk about her journey through processing her grief to becoming whole, happy, and able to move forward with her life.

There is no cost to attend the International Overdose Awareness Day event, but registration is required. To register, visit http://www.HospiceCommunity.org/oad or call the Pathways Center at 717-391-2413.
