Fundraiser will support LUMC ministries

Lampeter United Methodist Church (LUMC), 1101 Village Road, Lancaster, will hold its first Spaghetti and Song fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will include a meal and live entertainment, and the proceeds will benefit the church's ministries.

Dinner will be served at 5 p.m., and it will include spaghetti, a salad, a roll, a beverage and a dessert item. Live entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m.; it will feature musical performances from singers and instrumentalists from within the congregation and around the community.

There will be a set cost for attendance for adults, and children ages 3 to 12 will be offered a discounted price. Children younger than 3 may attend for free. Registration must be completed online by Wednesday, Sept. 13. To register, visit https://tinyurl.com/lumcdinnerandsong.

The funds raised from Spaghetti and Song will be used to support LUMC's children's ministry, which offers programs such as vacation Bible school and Kids Club. Kids Club is a program that was introduced in January and is held at the church on the first Wednesday of every month during the school year from 8:30 to 8 p.m. During each meeting, children from kindergarten to fifth grade play games, participate in musical activities and complete a lesson that incorporate arts and crafts. Kids Club was not held over the summer, but it will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

LUMC decided to introduce the Kids Club program to offer youngsters a program to attend during the week. Previously, the only children's programming was a weekly junior workshop. On Sundays at 10:30 a.m., children may attend the junior workshop to read a Bible story, complete a lesson and meet other kids in the church.

The proceeds from Spaghetti and Song will also benefit LUMC's missions ministry, which supports families that are in the field around the globe. The ministry supports missionaries financially as well as through prayer on a monthly basis, including families that are serving communities in Italy and Turkey. In addition to supporting those living abroad, LUMC's ministry also works with local organizations such as the Hub in Millersville. The Hub offers assistance to students at Millersville University who are in need. "We want to support communities locally and abroad, as well as raise awareness for different needs," said Sarah Short, secretary at LUMC. "Some of the most important ones are right here in the states."

LUMC is gearing up for a variety of community events in the fall. The church will operate a booth at the West Lampeter Community Fair in September, and it will host a fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 14. For more information, visit http://www.lampeterumc.com.
