Free fishing event posted

The Penn State Master Watershed Stewards in York County will partner with the Mid-Atlantic Youth Anglers & Outdoor Partners, the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association and the Watershed Alliance of York to host the Youth and Family Fishing and Conservation Day on Friday, Sept. 22. The event, which will offer free fishing for youths ages 5 to 16, will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kiwanis Lake, 300 Pennsylvania Ave., York.

Fishing gear and bait will be provided and there will be giveaways while supplies last. The event will also feature free fly fishing casting demonstration; prizes for the largest, smallest and most fish caught; and other hands-on, educational activities and demonstrations.

The program partners hosting the event strive to teach people to protect and preserve natural resources, including local waterways. The event is designed to encourage youths to make a connection to the waterways in York in hopes they become good stewards and protectors of natural resources in the future.

The program is being funded by the York County Community Foundation's Codorus Watershed Program Fund.
