Library posts October programs

The library will offer several ongoing programs. These activities include Knitting Club on Mondays, Oct. 2 and 16, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m.; Tai Chi Easy on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.; Lititz Game Club for players age 10 and older on Wednesdays, Oct. 4 and 18, at 4:30 p.m.; Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County on Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.; Painting Club on Wednesdays, Oct. 11 and 25, at 12:30 p.m.; Great Decisions Discussion Group on Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.; Morning Yoga for teens and adults on Fridays, Oct. 13, 20, and 27, at 9:15 a.m.; Jane Austen Society on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m.; Literary Travelers Book Club on Oct. 13 at 10 a.m.; Writing Club on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.; Genealogy Club on Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m.; Newcomers and Neighbors Book Club on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m.; and Lititz Art Association on Oct. 31 at 6 p.m.

Members of the Blanketeers will gather to make blankets of various kinds for Project Linus on Oct. 3 and 17 at 2 p.m.

The Lititz Garden Club will meet on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m. The program will focus on herbs.

The library will present an indoor concert featuring Rizzetta's Tones on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with a short intermission. Rizzetta's Tones is a Celtic Americana band whose members play "fraternal twin" hammered dulcimers, a silver flute, high and low whistles, and guitars. The group often adds button accordion autoharp, Greek bouzouki, mandolin, and ukulele, as well as doumbek, cajon, djembe, and other percussion instruments. All four members take turns singing lead and background vocals. Their repertoire includes music from Ireland, Scotland, the United States, Finland, Brazil, France, Macedonia, and other lands. Admission is free. Space is limited.

A Harvest Wine Class will be offered for people age 21 and up on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. The activity will be a wine tasting.

The Friends of the Lititz Library will host a Trivia Event: Through the Decades on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Teams of up to six people will use their knowledge of '60s music, '70s politics, '80s sports, '90s television, 2000s books and 2010s movies. There is a fee per team. Light refreshments and cash prizes will be provided. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The Ephrata Cloister Chorus will host its annual Oehme Program on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m. The Ephrata Cloister Chorus, under the direction of Mark Herr, is a group of volunteers that brings to life the music of the Ephrata Cloister as a special educational program of the Ephrata Cloister Associates. Wearing white robes patterned after those worn by the Brothers and Sisters of Ephrata in the mid-18th century, the chorus performs at the historic site and throughout the region. In addition to work from Ephrata's past, the group performs compositions from other early American communities, including the Shakers, the Moravians, the Harmonists, the Kelpius Community, the First New England School, and the African American community. Registration is required and will open on Oct. 12.

There Goes the Sun! on Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. will offer an opportunity to receive free glasses for viewing the eclipse and to make a fun case for the glasses.

Fall Backyard Story Times will be held in the library's backyard through Thursday, Oct. 26. Story times will take place on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The program is open to children of all ages and their caregivers.

Fall Indoor Story Times will be offered on select dates through Thursday, Nov. 16. Age-specific story times will be available for children 6 months through 5 years of age.

During the Paws to Read program on Saturdays, Oct. 14 and 28, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., children can read stories to trained therapy dogs.

Cruise Into Kindergarten will meet on Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Cruise Into Kindergarten is geared to children ages 3 to 6 and is based on the national Every Child Ready to Read program. After hearing a story, children and caregivers will visit stations intended to help with skills that children need to start school.

The library's fall StoryWalk is "Rhino's Great Big Itch!" by Natalie Chivers and "I Am a Rhino" by Aaron Carr. The StoryWalk begins to the right of the library entrance and moves counterclockwise around the library.
