Orchestra to offer Link Up program

In collaboration with Carnegie Hall, the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra is participating in Link Up: The Orchestra Swings, a music education program provided by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute (WMI), during the 2023-24 season.

Lancaster County public and private elementary schools and homeschool families are invited to register to take part in the free Link Up program and attend a culminating concert on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 14 and 15, 2024 at J. P. McCaskey High School, where they will sing and play the recorder with the orchestra from their seats. This experience often serves as a student's first concert and allows them to apply the musical concepts they have studied. Registration information and further details about the program can be found at http://www.lancastersymphony.org/carnegie-hall-link-up

For more than 35 years, Link Up has paired orchestras with students in grades three to five at schools in their local communities to explore orchestral repertoire and fundamental musical skills, including creative work and composition, through a hands-on music curriculum.

Link Up addresses the need for music instruction and resources by providing a free, year-long curriculum that teachers can implement, along with printed and digital classroom materials, online video and audio resources and the professional development and support necessary to make the program an engaging experience for students.

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra is one of more than 100 national and international organizations chosen for this program. Since 2003, Carnegie Hall has partnered with professional, community and university orchestras across the U.S. and around the world to support their existing education programs and strengthen their partnerships with local schools. In 2023-24, Link Up will partner with sites in the U.S., as well as in Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Kenya, New Zealand and Japan, to serve more than 300,000 students and teachers globally.
