SNHA to offer boat tours, lecture

The Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) will offer fall boat tours of the Susquehanna River, which are setting sail from SHNA's Zimmerman Center, located at 1706 Long Level Road, Wrightsville. Also being offered is a fall lecture.

People are invited to explore the Susquehanna's Civil War history aboard the Chief Uncas during "Flames Across the Susquehanna" tours that will be offered on Friday, Oct 13, and Sunday, Oct 15. SNHA staff will guide passengers on a one-hour tour of the river, sharing the colorful story of the night that flames stretched across the Susquehanna as the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge burned on June 28, 1863.

In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, the Zimmerman Center will provide "Native Peoples of the Susquehanna" boat tours aboard the Chief Uncas on Thursday, Oct. 5, through Monday, Oct. 9. On this one-hour boat tour, SNHA staff will introduce participants to the story of this area's Native Peoples as they pass historic Native American sites.

The first ever Brews Cruise will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 5:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to watch the sunset over the Susquehanna as they sample from Starview Brews' local beer offerings.

SNHA will also offer Sunset Cruises, which are 1.5-hour personalized cruises. For booking and price information for any of the events, visit http://www.susqnha.org/events.

A lecture with author Donald Kautz will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center. Kautz, author of "The Conestoga River: A History" will share stories about the Conestoga's impact on nature, frontier life, industry, recreation and more.

This is the first of a series of lectures based on SNHA's heritage blog, RiverRoots. Check out the blog at http://www.SusqNHA.org/RiverRoots and watch for more lectures coming soon.
