WFCS sets fun run, auction

A weekend of activities has been planned at West Fallowfield Christian School (WFCS) on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 and 14. Events will include the fifth annual fun run and the 42nd annual auction. Community members are welcome to participate.

Events will begin on Oct. 13 with the fun run, during which participants will be invited to walk or run 1 mile around the WFCS campus. New this year, all participants will be doused with color. "Last year, 160 people (participated)," noted auction committee member Jackie Houck. "This year, we are already at 180 (who have preregistered)."

Registration for the fun run will begin at 4:45 p.m., and the fun run will begin at 5:30 p.m.

"There will be an auction preview on Friday, and people can see all of the items that we will have up (for bids) the next day," said Jen Woltman, who is co-chair of the auction along with Jen Grossman. "We will also have gift cards available at face value on Friday that people can buy." Gift cards to area pizza shops will be sold as well as gift cards to Dutch-Way Farm Market, Walmart, Weis Markets and Giant. There will also be a sale of homemade baked goods.

Oct. 14 will feature a silent auction that will close at noon and the live auction, which will begin at 9 a.m. Doors will open at 8 a.m. There will also be an online auction that will close on Sunday, Oct. 15.

"We will have the silent auction and the live auction, which is where most of the items are, and we will have an online auction for a few select high-ticket items," said Woltman. "We have a vacation rental in Fripp Island, South Carolina, and a vacation rental in Chincoteague, Virginia." Other online auction items are one day of tree trimming work and one real estate transaction by a local real estate agent.

Live auction items will include home decor, outdoor equipment and sports memorabilia. "It is a good opportunity for people to bless the school financially and do something fun," noted Houck.

Also on the auction block will be teacher experience donations. "A teacher might take kiddos bowling or grab lunch," noted Houck. "Those items go pretty high because the parents want their kids to have those experiences with their teachers." There will also be an opportunity for parents to bid on the prize of "Principal of the Day" for their child.

Patrons will donate various items as well as experiences. "If they have a farm, they might donate produce, or they will teach people how to make bread or can salsa or pasta sauce," said Houck. "It's a lot of experience-based (items) that build community."

Also as part of the fundraiser, there will be a chance for attendees to win items through a random drawing. One of the prizes is a Blackstone grill with an accessory kit.

A Kids Zone child care area will be open during the live auction for children age 3 through third grade.

Proceeds will benefit the school's operating budget as well as help raise funds for the creation of an outdoor classroom. WFCS is located at 795 Fallowfield Road, Atglen.
