SALT plans "Mary Poppins"

SALT Performing Arts will present the musical "Mary Poppins" beginning on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Theatre at Yellow Springs, 1645 Art School Road, Chester Springs. The opening night will feature dressy attire and champagne. Additional performances will take place on Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m., with the last show on Sunday, Oct. 29.

The show follows the original story written by Pamela Lyndon Travers and published in 1934. SALT's rendition was created by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh and based on a book by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes. Original music by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman can be heard along with new music and lyrics by British duo George Stiles and Anthony Drew.

"Mary Poppins" tells the story of the Banks family, which is in need of a nanny. When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she is the answer to their prayers. Mary takes the children on magical and memorable adventures, but she also has a profound effect on the adults of the household.

The cast stars Amanda Campbell as Mary Poppins, with additional principal actors Hudson Marshas as Bert, Greg Kasander as George Banks, Maggie Riker as Winifred Banks, Emily Riker and Gwenneth Sidorick as Jane Banks and Gregory DePalma and Lawrence Rhodes as Michael Banks. Other actors are Emily Merow as Miss Andrew and Bird Woman; Wendy Mirto, Mrs. Brill; Daniel Gorman, Robertson Ay and Bert understudy; Katy Engleman, Miss Lark and Chimney Sweep; Tom Kalkiewicz, Von Hussler; Bess Zahradnik, Mrs. Northbrook and Winifred Banks understudy; Kylie Murray, Mrs. Corry and Chimney Sweep; Marie Wadlinger, Katie Nanna; Joe Wadlinger, Admiral Boom, Bank Chairman and George Banks understudy; Joey Bertoni, Park Keeper and Policeman; Brianna Marsh, Miss Smythe and understudy for Mary Poppins and Miss Andrew; Maddie Dixon, Nursery Toy and Chimney Sweep; and Christina Bucci, Erica Barnes, and Drew Kalkiewicz, Chimney Sweeps.

Robbie Merow is the director and the set, lighting, and sound designer.
