The POINT to present Nick Sirianni

The Parkesburg POINT youth center will present "Core Values: An Evening With Nick Sirianni" on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The annual fundraiser will begin at 6:45 p.m. in the auditorium at Octorara Junior-Senior High School, 226 Highland Road, Atglen. The public is invited to listen to Sirianni talk about his faith and his experiences as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dwayne Walton, The POINT's executive director, noted that he was able to secure Sirianni as a speaker with the help of sports radio talk show host Rob Maaddi, who has a syndicated talk show, "Faith on the Field."

"Rob and I have been working together, and we brought in Tim Tebow (for a past fundraiser)," said Walton. "Every year around this time, I asked him to get a speaker for our event. It took (Maaddi) a few weeks, but Nick agreed to come to The POINT."

Walton noted that Sirianni's message coincides with the values that The POINT tries to instill in local youths, such as teamwork. "He is a man of faith and has a story and perspective that aligns with The POINT," said Walton. "He is coming to talk about faith, leadership, teamwork and accountability."

"The POINT has a lot of athletics," Walton added. "We use sports to teach valuable lessons and to develop ethics and morality in young people."

Entering the 2023 season, his third as Eagles head coach, Sirianni had a combined 23-11 record, which marks the most wins by any head coach in his first two years with the franchise. Sirianni navigated the team to its fourth all-time trip the NFL championship game in 2022, establishing himself as the youngest head coach in Eagles history to reach the big game.

"He has been so successful in such a short period of time. He put a team together to work for a common goal," said Walton. "Internally, we do that at The POINT, and externally, we use the resources in our community to empower youths. We can't do it alone. It's law enforcement, schools, businesses and churches. If we all work together as a team, we can have an impact on the youths in our community."

The upcoming event is designed not only to raise funds for The POINT but also to inform the community about The POINT and its services and activities for youths, such as offering a healthy dinner for students during the school year and both lunch and dinner during the summer on Mondays through Thursdays. The POINT also offers sports and recreation programs, including basketball, boxing, soccer, gaga ball and flag football, as well as hands-on job training.

"We are excited," Walton added. "We have some football teams from some of the local high schools and people from outside of the Parkesburg area looking to come."

Tickets will be required to attend, with separate prices for adults and students. No tickets will be sold at the door.

In addition to purchasing individual tickets, various sponsorship levels are available. Select sponsors will be able to meet Sirianni at The POINT prior to and after the keynote speech.
