Bike tour to explore watersheds

The Penn State Extension's Master Watershed Stewards will offer Water Ways on Wheels, a bike tour of the watersheds of the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail. The tour will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

It is an out-and-back bike ride from the East Donegal Township Riverfront Park, 551 Vinegar Ferry Road, Marietta, to the Fisherman's Wharf Trail access at the northern terminus in Falmouth. This event will provide an opportunity to explore and learn about the various watershed features, trail history, and geologic history that make this area special. Upon returning to Riverfront Park, snacks will be available and attendees will discuss what they learned during the tour.

The entire trail is paved, and the total mileage is approximately 15 miles, including stops along the way and a water break. The tour is expected to run about two and a half to three hours. The event will include a ride leader and a ride sweeper patrolling the event for your safety.

Attendees must supply their own bike and bike helmet, and participation will not be permitted without a helmet. Any type of bike, whether road, mountain, or gravel, may be used. There is a fee to attend, and participants must be 21 years of age or older.
