Students of the Month recognized

The Elizabethtown Area High School Rotary Students of the Month for September are Jillian Wivell and Carter Ketchum. The program celebrates student achievements and seeks to sustain a culture of learning and belonging that values academic success and raises awareness of student contributions to the high school community. The honorees have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their studies, leadership and character qualities and positive contributions to the school community.

Jillian is the daughter of Jason and Cindy Wivell of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the T.H. Ebersole Chapter of the National Honor Society, co-president of Student Council and a student leader for the Bible club. She plays the trombone in the marching band and is a member of the Key Club and cross-country team. The high school faculty honored Jillian with academic excellence awards in Honors English 9, Honors Algebra II, Health 11 and Advanced Placement Language and Composition at the underclass awards program. Jillian is a regular volunteer at the Elizabethtown Fair, assisting with a variety of children's games. In addition, she is active at her church, where she helps with toddler Sunday school, plays the keyboard for the youth worship choir and served on a mission trip to Ghana. After graduation, Jillian plans to study biopsychology, with a focus on children, at a Christian university.

Carter is the son of Neil and Beth Ketchum of Elizabethtown. He is captain of the lacrosse team, is involved in Mini-THON and is a member of the National Honor Society, the band and the swim team. He has been named to the honor roll each marking period during his time at the high school. In addition, he won LNP's Student Journalism Contest in 2021 and 2022. After graduation, Carter plans to attend college to study economics or political science.
