Library to join in worldwide reading event

The Milanof-Schock Library will participate in Jumpstart's annual Read for the Record (RFTR) challenge on Thursday, Oct. 26. The library's Miss Jan has teamed up with Hannah Ferrara, the head of Donegal High School's English Department, to organize a group of high school students to take part in the annual RFTR reading campaign to promote early literacy. The goal of RFTR is to join worldwide with others to break the record for reading the same book on the same day.

This year's featured storybook is "With Lots of Love" written by Jenny Torres Sanchez and illustrated by Andre Ceolin. The high school students and teachers will board buses on Oct. 26 and travel to Donegal Intermediate School and Donegal Primary School to read this book to the children. Miss Jan will also read "With Lots of Love" for her library story time at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 26. The Norlanco-Rheems Kiwanis Club purchased copies of the book to be gifted to the classrooms of Donegal Primary School. A copy of the storybook will also be available at the library.

Jumpstart's RFTR is a shared reading experience celebrating children's early language and social-emotional development. Each year, RFTR brings together millions of adults and children as they read the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through reading.
