Library plans activities

The Lititz Public Library will be closed on Friday, Nov. 3, for a staff development day and Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23 and 24, for Thanksgiving.

The library will offer several ongoing programs. These activities include Lititz Game Club for players age 10 and older on Wednesdays, Nov. 1 and 15, at 4:30 p.m.; Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m.; Lititz Garden Club on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m., featuring "Native American Uses of Plants"; Knitting Club on Mondays, Nov. 6 and 20, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m.; Painting Club on Wednesdays, Nov. 8 and 22, at 12:30 p.m.; Great Decisions Discussion Group on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m.; Morning Yoga for teens and adults on Fridays, Nov. 10 and 17, at 9:15 a.m.; Tai Chi Easy on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6:30 p.m.; Newcomers and Neighbors Book Club on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m.; Literary Travelers Book Club on Nov. 17 at 10 a.m.; Writing Club on Nov. 20 at 1 p.m.; the Jane Austen Society on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6:30 p.m.; and Lititz Art Association on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m.

A Local Author Expo will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Attendees may meet local authors, purchase books from the authors or from Aaron's Books, and get books signed. Aaron's Books will also sell writing books, journals, and other items. Light refreshments will be served in the board room. Free library swag will be available.

Concurrent with the expo, a Write-In will be held in celebration of National Novel Writing Month, November. Community members may stop by to write in the community room. Free Wi-Fi, tables, chairs, light refreshments, prizes, and free library swag will be available.

Members of the Blanketeers will gather to make blankets of various kinds for Project Linus on Tuesdays, Nov. 7 and 21, at 2 p.m.

Hygge at the Library will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 8, with identical programs at 2 and 6 p.m. Attendees will learn ways to bring the art of coziness into their lives. Light refreshments will be served.

The Anna Alexander Trio will perform in concert on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m. The trio performs jazz music and a few modern songs. Alexander, a vocalist and pianist, has been performing for over 20 years and has participated in CD recordings.

Lititz Historical Foundation will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m. Local historian Brett Snyder will present "The Life of H. Clifton Thorbahn," telling the story of Lancaster County resident H. Clifton Thorbahn through Thorbahn's scrapbook and additional sources. The program will have a 1920s jazz soundtrack.

Sound Healing with Shivaya Healing Arts and Jill Spencer O'Leary will be presented on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. Attendees should bring a yoga mat or something else to lie on and a small pillow. They may also bring a blanket and an eye mask, if desired. Complimentary eye masks will be available. A bottle of water is also recommended. Attendees will be lying down for approximately 40 minutes.

Journaling for Relaxation will be offered on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. Topics will include different types of journals and journaling techniques, exercises, tools and resources. Attendees will also receive tips on creating, decorating, and customizing a journal.

A Look at Libraries: Using Today's Library will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at 4:30 p.m. This informal session will focus on how to look up, locate, and check out library materials, as well as tips for managing a library account.

The library will offer programs for children and families, and registration will be available two weeks prior to the event.

Fall Indoor Story Times will occur through Nov. 16. Age-specific story times will be available for children ages 6 months to 5 years.

The library's holiday StoryWalk title is "Christmas in Lititz" by local author Bill Dussinger. This book is a Lititz-inspired version of "The 12 Days of Christmas."

During the Paws to Read program on Saturdays, Nov. 11 and 25, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., children can read stories to trained therapy dogs.

Cruise Into Kindergarten will meet on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. The program is geared to children ages 3 to 6 and is based on the national Every Child Ready to Read program. After hearing a story, children and caregivers will visit stations intended to help with skills that children need to start school.

Three-Week Parachute Play, for children ages 3 to 5, will be offered at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., or 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Nov. 28 to Dec. 12, and at 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Nov. 29 to Dec. 13. Class size is limited, and online registration will begin on Nov. 14. Children must be age 3 by Friday, Dec. 1.
