LD students in the community

Lower Dauphin (LD) High School recently announced that several of its students have been accepted into various programs in the community.

High school students Jordan Dormer, Nicole Estes, Sabrina Iovine and Grace Pankake will represent LD in the Healthcare Career Exploration Program (HCEP) at the Hershey Medical Center.

This year's program is the first time students have been permitted back on the medical center's campus since March 2020. HCEP is offered through a collaboration between five local high schools, including Lower Dauphin, Hershey, Central Dauphin, Central Dauphin East and Harrisburg, as well as Penn State Health, Penn State College of Medicine and the Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. The program is held every school day with rotations and seminars on-site at Hershey Medical Center.

Three LD High School students were selected to participate in the fall 2023 PULSE program at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center & College of Medicine.

Lillian Linnell, Jainee Patel and Giulia Piermattei will participate in the semester-long course taught after school, which features lectures and activities both in-person and via Zoom with an emphasis on digestion and nutrition and exploring the journey of food taught by attending physicians and resident students.

Eight LD High School students were accepted in the Architecture, Construction & Engineering (ACE) program this year. They include seniors Jacob Mader, Logan Pedersen, Jayden Southerland, Steven Starsinic and Steven Weschitz, and juniors Mason Dissinger, Antonio Farole and Lucas McClintock.

ACE is held after school on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. The ACE Mentor program discusses principles in design and construction from contracting and engineering to architecture and landscaping.
