Meeting to honor police department

The West Earl Township Board of Supervisors invites the public to a special meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m. at the West Earl Township Municipal Building, 157 W. Metzler Road, Brownstown. This date reflects a change to the originally scheduled event.

At the meeting, members of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) will recognize the West Earl Township Police Department for receiving accreditation. Light refreshments will be served afterward.

In July, a team of assessors from PLEAC spent two days conducting an on-site assessment of the agency to ensure its compliance with PLEAC standards and best practices in law enforcement. The assessment team evaluated every aspect of the police department, including its policies, procedures, training, facilities and equipment. The assessors also conducted ride-alongs with West Earl police officers. After the assessment, the PLEAC team recommended that the West Earl Township Police Department be recognized as an accredited law enforcement agency.

On Oct. 26, the West Earl Township Police Department was awarded a Certificate of Law Enforcement Accreditation after a unanimous vote by PLEAC at a ceremony held in Harrisburg. The department is now one of the 174 agencies in Pennsylvania accredited by PLEAC.
