Lions Club lists parade results, announces holiday activities

Members of the Octorara Junior-Senior High School marching band and the Octorara Leo Club, as well as antique car owners, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, church groups, fire companies and costumed walkers, were among the participants that took part in this year's Parkesburg Lions Club Halloween Parade held on Oct. 28. Many people were along the parade route this year as well, reported Robin McKenna. Lions Club president.

Taking top place in the Adult Division was Phillip Roomet dressed as Edward Scissorhands. The Child Division winner was Marleigh Roomet also dressed as Edward Scissorhands. "Their costumes and makeup were incredible," McKenna remarked.

The winner of the Group/Float Division was Bees & Trees, followed by the second-place winner, Disney Vacation. Third place went to the Fearless Phantoms of Main Street.

"Due to the number registered in this category this year, we plan to divide it into two separate categories next year," explained McKenna. "We hope to have a floats category and a groups category."

Russell's Dance and Baton Studio took the top spot in Performance Groups while Keystone Valley Fire Department (KVFD) was the winner of the Fire Company Division. The winning vehicle was a hearse driven by Nicole Stoltzfus.

Following the parade was the Parkesburg Lions Trunk or Treat event. "It is estimated that there were around 400 Trunk-or-Treaters this year. There were 11 trunks to visit," McKenna reported.

Up next for the Lions Club are two efforts to support members of the armed forces. "One is sending snacks and treats to soldiers serving at the Mexico border," McKenna stated. "Another is providing holiday meal support for local reservists and their families."

Donations may be dropped off at the Parkesburg Borough Office, 315 W. First Ave., Parkesburg. Snack items that are needed include gum, trail mix, beef jerky and ramen noodles. Items needed for the Christmas dinner are canned vegetables, boxed stuffing and instant mashed potatoes. People may also donate gift cards to local grocery stores. The deadline for donations is Sunday, Dec. 10.
