Club plans December hikes

The York Hiking Club will host several events in December. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and bring water. A 9.5-mile hike along Muddy Creek stream will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2. The trail is mostly narrow with some rocky areas, but it is well maintained. Attendees should bring a lunch and hiking poles. Participants may meet at the York County School of Technology parking lot at 8:15 a.m. to carpool, or they may meet at the park, 517 S. Cold Cabin Road, Delta, at 9 a.m. There is a carpool fee, and those who plan to carpool are asked to call hike leader Carmen Rodriguez at 443-841-6939. During a 7-mile hike on Saturday, Dec. 9, attendees will walk beside the Susquehanna River from Marietta to Koser Park, with a stop at Waterfront Park. From Koser Park, the group will carpool back to Marietta. The route is flat and paved, and hiking poles are not needed. Attendees may bring a snack if they wish. Attendees may meet at Koser Park, 107 Race St., Bainbridge, at 9:30 a.m., or they may meet at Red Robin and call the hike leaders to be guided to Koser Park. This activity is a shuttle hike and involves carpooling to Marietta; there is no carpool fee. On Sunday, Dec. 17, York Hiking Club will offer a 6- to 7-mile perimeter loop hike around Rocky Ridge Park. The terrain can be rocky. Hiking poles are optional, and snacks are recommended. Attendees will meet at 9 a.m. at the first parking lot on the left when entering the park from Deininger Road. A 6- to 8-mile hike at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23. Participants will walk on various trails, with points of interest including an abandoned trolley line right-of-way along Middle Creek stream, the remains of an old house, a bridge, a dam and a vista. Attendees may also discover a new addition to the nature center. The trails offer mostly wooded, easy hiking, although there may be small hills. Participants should dress for the weather and bring snacks and a lunch.
