SNHA plans weekend holiday activities

Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) has planned holiday activities.

A holiday open house will take place at the Zimmerman Center for Heritage, 1706 Long Level Road, Wrightsville on Saturday, Dec. 9, and Sunday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees may learn how the families that lived in the historic Dritt Mansion celebrated the holidays. The event will include opportunities to make a punched tin ornament, watch bake oven demonstrations in the open hearth fireplace and enjoy festive refreshments. At the outdoor Nature Space, attendees may warm up by the fire circle and make s'mores. There will be an opportunity to create ornaments and decorations for local birds and other wildlife to enjoy. Family Tree Farm donated a Christmas tree, and York History Center donated Colonial hearth baking tools for this event. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted.

A Natural Ornament Making workshop will be offered at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., Columbia, on Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees may create their own tree decorations from natural materials like pinecones and acorns. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted.
