Horn Farm Center posts programs

Horn Farm Center is accepting applications for its 2024 training programs. Three programs are available, and each has a fee.

The Land Steward Training Program will include 16 weekly classes between February and May. Students will gain hands-on experience in restoring healthy ecosystems, rebuilding habitat, addressing climate change, and rekindling a sense of place in nature. Scholarship funds are available through the Peterman Family Foundation and other donors.

The Ecological Gardener Training Program, taught in collaboration with Elyse Jurgen of Lancaster-based Waxwing Ecoworks Co., will also run for 16 weeks from February to May. Students will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to design, build, and steward native gardens that support pollinators, wildlife, and people.

The Beekeeper Training Program, taught by Mark Gingrich of York-based Gingrich Apiaries, will lead students through the science and practice of maintaining a beehive at home to help bolster pollinator populations while enjoying home-grown honey, beeswax, and pollinator services. Classes will occur monthly, and students will have the option to start their own colony at home after their first year. The registration fee is discounted for those who enroll for a second year.

Each year, the Horn Farm Center's training programs seek to inspire well-rounded, activated, and confident caretakers of the natural world, cultivating the community of land stewards. No prior knowledge or experience is required.
