Second Chance PA marks fifth year

Second Chance PA recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Established as a collaboration between law enforcement, emergency medical services (EMS), first responders, crisis workers, and Blueprints for Addiction Recovery, Second Chance PA is a diversion program for individuals dealing with substance abuse across central Pennsylvania. The program provides an alternative to incarceration.

Second Chance PA operates as a multifaceted initiative, linking residents to a comprehensive range of addiction treatment and recovery resources. The program's approach includes facilitating referrals to drug detoxification and stabilization programs, continuing with outpatient treatment, and extending support into community-based recovery efforts. Second Chance PA also offers tailored recovery guidance and ongoing mentorship to support participants throughout their journey to recovery. Twenty-five of the 26 police departments in Lancaster County participate in the program, which has facilitated more than 3,200 connections to treatment.

Program gateways are designed to make access to services seamless for both participating agencies and residents seeking assistance. Walk-ins are encouraged, allowing anyone facing addiction challenges to simply walk into a participating police department and seek help. For those preferring online communication, a confidential form is available at http://www.SecondChancePA.com to request program details or schedule an assessment. Additionally, a dedicated phone line connects individuals directly to a treatment and recovery support specialist; for more information, visit the aforementioned website.
