South Korean musical duo to perform

The Arts at Millersville University will host a concert by CelloGayageum on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Winter Visual & Performing Arts Center, 60 W. Cottage Ave., Millersville.

CelloGayageum is an intercultural musical duo consisting of cellist Sol Daniel Kim and gayageum player Dayoung Yoon. The gayageum is the traditional Korean 12-string zither. Since its formation in 2016, CelloGayageum has received recognition and awards, including the Soorim Culture Prize; a grant from the Seoul Foundation of Arts and Culture; and the 2020 Artist of the Year designation by the Jeongdong Theater in Seoul. The duo has toured across Asia and Europe.

On this tour, CelloGayageum will present original compositions from its new album, "2.0," which synthesizes Korean traditional music and classical chamber music, with a hint of jazz, bluegrass, and flamenco. The duo will also share its knowledge of traditional Korean music and instruments as well as its approach to blending Korean and Western music.

This performance is made possible through the Melva S. McIlwaine Concert and Masterclass Endowment fund and in part through the Performing Arts Global Exchange program of Mid-Atlantic Arts, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
