Gallery to present artworks by former educator

The Arts on the Square Gallery at Market Square Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Second St., Harrisburg, will present the exhibit "Impressions: Watercolors by Elaine Wilson," opening on Sunday, Jan. 14, with an artist's reception from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Geneva Hall on the fourth level of the church. The public is invited to attend.

As a former art instructor and supervisor of art for a large school district including students in grades one through 12, Wilson received the Pennsylvania Art Educator of the Year award. She was among the founders of the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg and started two academic schools in Moscow. Her high school recently honored her as Outstanding Alumna of the Year. She has served on or chaired numerous art-related, church, and community boards.

Along with her watercolor painting, Wilson is the author of 21 books. Fifteen of them, under the umbrella title of "The Art of God's Message," feature details about a famous work of art and its artist.

Wilson's paintings have been exhibited in venues across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Her current interests revolve around traveling, painting, writing, photography, and lecturing. She resides in New Cumberland.

Free parking for the opening reception will be provided in the adjacent Market Square Garage. The church is accessible to people with disabilities. Attendees should enter the church from the first level of the garage or use the event entrance on Second Street.

The Arts on the Square Gallery presents three exhibits annually to showcase creativity and artworks by church members, friends, and local or regional artists. For more information, visit http://www.marketsquarechurch.org/mspc-art-gallery.
