Bear Bags program honored

Elizabethtown Area School District's Bear Bags program was recognized as one of the top three nonprofit organizations in Lancaster County by Lancaster County Magazine's Best of Lancaster 2023 Readers Survey. The annual survey allows community members to voice their opinions on the best businesses and organizations in the area.

The Bear Bags program, part of the district's Support Services Division and Culture of Belonging initiative, addresses the needs of individuals and families facing food insecurity. It was initiated with the goal of easing hunger among students and their families. District social worker Jenn Fields coordinates the community-funded program. Under the supervision of high school teacher Rebecca Booth, students from Booth's class assemble food-filled backpacks for students to take home to their families on weekends.
